Surveyors through the president of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) Abraham Samoei on Tuesday signed an agreement for the processing of sectional title deeds with the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development.

The memorandum will create an avenue to register sectional properties on conditional basis thereby opening up financial transactions and allowing owners of flats to get individual titles for their property.

Speaking at Ardhi House after signing the agreement, Samoei welcomed the cooperation from the State Department of Lands and Physical Planning, headed by Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir.

"I have worked through the past two administrations and we feel happy with the engagements with this administration," said Samoei, who was accompanied by the chairman of the Association of Registered Land Surveyors of Kenya, Mr. Abdulkhadir Khalif.

On his part, PS Korir assured the surveyors that his department is open to cooperating with stakeholders to serve Kenyans better.

"I want to commit that we will work with you to serve Kenyans better. We will not engage in monologues and pretend to know everything, " said Korir.

The PS further stated that he will issue a circular to will notify the public on when the deal comes into effect and when it lapses.

Last week, a similar agreement was signed by the Law Society of Kenya, and the Kenya Bankers Association.

According to the agreement, owners of sectional properties have now been given a window of six months during which they can obtain title deeds.

The moratorium temporarily lifts the requirements for getting apartments to have geo referencing before they can be titled.
