A driver and a tout of a Super Metro bus involved in the death of a 25-year-old man in Kitengela have been charged in court over the incident.

According to reports, the crew of the bus allegedly pushed Joseph Mureithi out of the moving vehicle along the Kitengela-Namanga Highway on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Moments after he was ejected, the same vehicle reportedly ran over him before speeding off, leaving him fatally injured by the roadside.

According to the bus company's statement, both suspects were released on Ksh.500,000 bond or a surety of the same amount, pending the hearing of the case.

"Super Metro acknowledges the court's decision concerning the accident. Most importantly, we remain committed to the safety of our employees, customers and the broader community," the statement read in part.

"We have already taken significant steps to review and strengthen our safety procedures and compliance measures."

Super Metro acknowledged conducting an internal review to determine whether any company procedures were implicated to improve safety measures.

"We will continue working constructively with relevant authorities and laying emphasis on preventive measures to curb such an occurrence in the future."

Mureithi, a petrol attendant at a station in Athi River, had only recently secured the job to help settle his ailing mother’s hospital bills.

Following the incident, Mureithi was pronounced dead on arrival at Shalom Hospital.
