Starehe MP Mwago honors NCIC summon over hate speech allegations
Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago on Thursday honored the summon by the National Cohesion and Integration Commision(NCIC) over allegations of hate speech.
Mwago however claimed that his summon is linked to his allegiance
with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, noting that the session was
marred by efforts to silence him.
Accompanied by his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, they accused NCIC of
being used as a political weapon to selectively target specific individuals
over alleged hate speech remarks.
The legislator asserted that he will not relent to call out President William Ruto’s administration which he believes is hell-bent on silencing its critics.
The commission is probing Mwago for comments he made at a public forum, where he accused the late President Daniel Moi’s regime of abetting graft, further linking another top leader to committing erroneous crimes against Kenyans.
The move is part of NCIC's efforts to tame hate speech in Kenya as political tensions continue to rise in the nation
Since his ouster in October 2024, Gachagua has been on an
onslaught to call out the Kenya Kwanza administration alongside his allies
among them Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Gachagua has recently joined opposition politicians Kalonzo
Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa.
He has also hinted at an alliance with NARC Kenys leader
Martha Karua.
