Standard Chartered to partner with Mombasa Walk Movement for the bank’s 20th Marathon Edition
Standard Chartered Bank has partnered with Mombasa Walk
Movement (MWM) to promote their 20th Edition Marathon, scheduled for October
29, 2023.
To kickstart the event, they will be launching the bank's
Mombasa satellite marathon on Saturday, July 22, 2023, which will coincide with
the Nairobi edition.
The launch event, dubbed "Twende StanChart Marathon 2023," will be graced by Mombasa Governor
Abdulswamad Nassir, who will flag off over 500 participants for a 14-kilometer walk.
The walk will start at Standard Chartered Bank-Treasury
Square and end at Kibarani Recreational Park, commencing at 6 am. Additionally,
a tree-planting activity is planned, with the goal of planting over 1,000
trees.
A medical camp will also be set up to provide healthcare
services to the participants and the local community.
The event aims to raise awareness about the upcoming marathon while highlighting the importance of
fitness, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
Standard Chartered Bank Kenya's Chairperson, Kellen Kariuki,
expressed their commitment to promoting a healthier and greener future and
their enthusiasm for Mombasa County's involvement in the initiative.
Idris Abdirahman, the founder and chairman of Mombasa Walk
Movement, shared his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing how it aligns
perfectly with their vision for a healthier and more walkable Mombasa.
They believe the launch will inspire individuals and
communities to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and raise awareness about the
upcoming marathon.
Mombasa Walk Movement (MWM) is a community-based organization that brings together residents of Mombasa County for weekly walks ranging from 15 to 20 kilometers. The movement advocates for
healthy living, a walkable city, and environmental sustainability. They have already covered over 580 kilometers, with various events and activities aimed at promoting fitness and well-being.
