Staffer killed after Uzima University bus overturned along Kisumu-Kakamega highway
One person died after a bus belonging to Uzima University
got involved in an accident on Monday evening along the Kisumu-Kakamega
highway.
According to a police report, 17 students and 2 staff members aboard the 51-seater bus were from an educational trip in Kakamega and were headed towards Kisumu.
Upon reaching Coptic roundabout, the driver is said to have lost control and veered off the road, causing the bus to overturn.
The bus rested on its left side across the road, completely blocking one side of the dual carriageway.
"As a result, one female member of staff died on the spot, while other passengers sustained injuries," read the report.
Another female staff member sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH)
The driver, 3 male and 4 female students sustained slight injuries and were treated and discharged.
The deceased's body was moved to the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, the totaled bus has been towed to the police station awaiting inspection.
