Renowned sports journalist and commentator Sean Cardiovillis has been cremated at the Hindu Crematorium in Kariakor, Nairobi, his employer Capital FM reported on Thursday.

The motorsport enthusiast, whose death was announced on September 9, 2023, was cremated at a private family event ceremony in line with Hindu customs.

Following the event, his family has announced that a memorial service will be held on Friday next week at the Consolata Shrine Catholic Church in Westlands, Nairobi.

At the time of his demise, Cardovillis was a sports news presenter at Capital FM, with a career spanning decades.

Although his employer did not give details about his ailment, they noted that for the last four years, Sean had struggled with ill-health, and was in and out of hospital.

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua led the country in eulogizing the journalist, remembering him for his “brilliance and passion” in the media industry.
