Speaker Wetangula pushes for increased collaboration with Algerian companies
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has called for increased
collaboration between Kenya and Algeria in order to boost the two nations' key
economic enablers such as agriculture, manufacturing and irrigation.
Speaking in Algiers on Thursday when he paid a courtesy call to
the city's Wali, the equivalent of a governor in Kenya's system of governance,
Wetangula underscored that Kenya and Algeria have a shared history as well as
common natural resources which should be tapped for growth and economic
development.
“My country Kenya is working in boosting her food production
ability through farming by irrigation and technological innovation. Sharing of
ideas like this one here today goes a long way towards making Kenya a food
secure nation," said Wetangula after touring an exhibition displaying a
vast range of agricultural produce in Blida, Algiers.
The tour covered the Venus Plant dealing with production of beauty
products, the Vitro Plant for producing insecticides fruit trees, the Expesimed
Company for diabetic treatment, Daim Grin company producing animal feeds, and
Agrodiv which specializes in the manufacturing of Pasta.
Speaker Wetangula similarly lauded the Algerian government, local
manufacturers, traders and the business community for their innovations and
dedication in producing high quality products.
“I am very impressed with the level of innovations and creativity
displayed here in Algeria. I am happy that are you are well equipped to conduct
the process of food production right from farming to processing of food
products,” he stated.
On his part, Algiers' Wali Ahmed Maaded, who accompanied Wetangula
on the tour, welcomed the Kenyan delegation and committed to support the Kenya
– Algeria partnership for progressive development of the African continent.
“I am happy to receive you in Blida, I encourage you to tour the
region, exchange ideas, and explore possibilities of cooperation between the
two countries in the sector of Agriculture, Industrial production and trade,”
said Maaded.
