Speaker Justin Muturi, Karua, Kabogo hold meeting on Mt. Kenya unity
A group of
leaders under the Mount Kenya Unity forum on Wednesday held a meeting to deliberate on several
issues among them the region’s unity ahead of the 2022 elections.
Led by
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Narc Kenya party leader Martha
Karua, the forum urged the Mt. Kenya people to remain calm as they strategise on how
to consolidate the vote-rich region in the run-up to next year’s polls.
Speaking after the meeting held at a Nairobi hotel, Martha Karua said
they plan to hold discussions about regional unity with elected leaders from Mt. Kenya including governors, senators, and MPs.
She added
that they plan to interact with residents in every county of the region
in a bid to popularize their unity talks.
Former
Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who was also present at the meeting, said
the talks are still at
the formative stage assuring that their main goal is to unite the nation.
"Residents in Mount Kenya should stop worrying and asking what we are doing,
sisi tuko katika harakati ya kuleta watu pamoja, madhumuni yetu ni kuunganisha taifa la kenya," Kabogo said.
Also in attendance was National Assembly Speaker Justin
Muturi, former MPs Ngung'u Githinji (Tetu) and Humphrey Njuguna
(Gatanga).
