Sonko rewards the Rising Starlets after win in Angola

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday received the national Under-20 women’s national football team, the Rising Starlets, following their return from Angola where they beat the hosts 4-0.

The former Governor received the Rising Stralets at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) where he also handed them a cash reward of Ksh.200,000.

"Even though siku hizi I am broke, I have awarded our girls a token of Ksh.200,000 for making us proud. I wish them all the best of luck in their next game against Cameroon. Mungu Mbele," said Sonko.

The rising starlets will face Cameroon in the third round of the 2024 Under 20 women's World Cup. 

Cameroon thrashed Botwana 4-1 to advance 6-1 on aggregate.

The rising starlets on the other hand walloped Angola 4-0 away in Luanda. 

Valerie Nekesa who scored a hat trick in Nairobi scored the opener after six minutes. Anna Amisi scored a double in the 36th and 57th minute, with Charity 

Mideva wrapping up the win with a goal in the 94th minute. 

Rising starlets won 6-1 at home to advance 10-1 on aggregate.
