Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen now says it is up to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that four filmmakers linked to the BBC documentary Blood Parliament broke the law.

The DCI accused the journalists of several offences, including the publication of false information and cyber harassment.

The detectives now seek jail terms ranging from 5 to 25 years for four filmmakers; Christopher Wambugu, Mark Denver Muchira, Brian Adagala, and Nicholas Wambugu.

The quartet is accused of breaching the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act during the production of the BBC documentary Blood Parliament. Among the charges include the publication of false information and cyber harassment.

But the journalists, through their lawyers, have denied all allegations, insisting they did not break any laws in the course of their work.

CS Murkomen said the case must be handled with integrity, stressing that the claims being pursued by both the DCI and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions must be supported by credible evidence.

"I believe that the DCI and the Courts will do the right thing if indeed there is evidence of any crime that was committed. There are many checks and balances that will be done by the DPP, someone is not just arrested and arraigned without evidence," Murkomen said in Tharaka Nithi County.

The Blood Parliament documentary exposed security officers accused of fatally shooting protesters during the June 25th Occupy Parliament demonstrations held in opposition to the passage of the Finance Bill 2024.

The CS, however, stated that those who stormed the Parliament buildings on that day were in clear violation of the law.

"Parliament is a protected area and those who breached committed an offense."

Murkomen also claimed that the storming of Parliament was orchestrated by criminals allegedly mobilised by a former senior government official, with the aim of attacking MPs following the passage of the 2024 Finance Bill.

"The real protesters did not enter parliament, they left the CBD. Those you saw were mobilized by a former senior Government official who was removed from office. I sympathize with the victims and I am aware that investigations are ongoing," the CS stated.

The Interior CS made the remarks in Tharaka Nithi County, where he presided over the Jukwaa la Usalama Security Assessment Forum.

The gathering, attended by local administrators and residents, focused on key security issues in the region, including banditry and land disputes.
