Six people killed, 11 injured in Marsabit vehicle attack

At least six people were on Thursday reported dead and 11 others injured following an attack on a vehicle en route to Badassa in Saku from Marsabit town.

According to Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali, the perpetrators of the attack, who are yet to be identified, are enemies of progress who don’t want Marsabit County to prosper economically.

“Clearly this is a well calculated move engineered to inflict the highest amount of pain on the members of the Borana Community and to slow down the activities of the county government so that we cannot make any economic progress,” Governor Ali told Citizen TV.

“Whenever there are activities that we plan, then the executors of these terrible acts normally move into action.”

The governor continued to say that the attacks have been ongoing for a long period of time and he similarly wondered why they have never been thwarted despite reports being made to the country’s elaborate intelligence gathering agencies.

“We are in a country with elaborate security systems. We are in the stable nation of Kenya but why does Marsabit have to experience this kind of thing year in year out?” he posed.

“While we don’t expect security agents to be everywhere every time I think, because of the elaborate intelligence networks we have in this country, the planners of this activities ought to have been taken in by now.”

He consequently called on security officials and law enforcement agencies to change tact and address the tribal clashes plaguing Marsabit County once and for all.
