Six Kenyan traders shot dead by Al Shabaab militants at Dhobley town

Six Kenyans were killed on Friday morning by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Dhobley town near Garissa County on the Kenya-Somalia border.

The victims were traders who had crossed to the Somalia side to open their shops before gunmen whose faces were covered and were driving in a probox shot at them randomly killing four on the spot while two died while receiving treatment in hospital.

Garissa County Police Commander John Samburumo said the suspects fled immediately after the 7:15 am incident even as he appealed to Kenyan traders in the area of the incident to be vigilant.

The police boss noted that the matter at hand is a cross-border issue and will be handled appropriately.

On his side, Garrisa County Commissioner Mohamed Ramadhan said investigations are ongoing to establish the reason behind the attacks.

Reports however claim that the victims were targeted due to their perceived religious association.

The county commissioner said plans are underway to ferry the bodies to Garrisa town for further process.
