Sister of woman killed alongside Chris Msando recounts their last moments

Former IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando (L) and Carol Ngumbu (R) who were found dead on July 29, 2017.
In July 29, 2017, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
(IEBC) ICT manager Chris Msando was found dead at a forest in Kikuyu, Kiambu
County.
Lying next to Chris Msando was the body of Carol Ngumbu, a young lady who
had been in a relationship with the ICT Manager for close to a year.
Speaking to NTV, Carol’s sister, Jedidah Wanjiku recounted the occurrences of July 27, when she was to have a Friday night drink with Chris Msando, and even invited her to join them.
“She
told me Chris was going for a meeting, when Chris left the meeting, he called
her…saying he has another meeting in the evening, he asked her to wait for him
somewhere,” Jedidah recounted.
With the busy schedule, and just a week to the 2017 General Election, Msando had asked his friend
to keep Carol company that night.
Jedidah was also supposed to join them, but her phone
went off.
“Carol called me asking where I was, I told her to
wait for me to finish up with a client. Then my phone went off, when I went to
charge, it could not, I do not know what happened. I had no cash, so I thought
going to town without a phone would be a hustle, I decided to go home,” she
said.
“They were waiting for me, when Chris arrived around
9-10 PM, it was the last time we talked. If I had showed up, I would be there….the
phone saved me.”
After failing to turn up for the night of drinks,
Jedidah called her sister the next morning but her phone was off.
“On Sunday I called Chris and his phone was off,
then, I had not watched TV to know Chris is missing. I was tensed, thinking how
I would tell my parents,” she shared.
After missing both Msando and Carol on their phones
Jedidah thought of telling her mum (who was not aware of the relationship) about the sudden disappearance of the two.
Before sharing, she logged into social media when
she came across reports of the ICT manager missing.
“I went online and started seeing Chris is missing.
Shortly I saw that Chris was found with an unknown female body next to him, I
screamed…cried. I knew it was my sister,” Jedidah said.
She then went to City Mortuary with a friend who
identified Carol’s body and had the assignment to tell their mother.
All along, Carol’s mother had been following the news on Msando’s disappearance, praying for his family without knowing that her
daughter was also missing, nor that she was his lover.
“When I was told that the IEBC official who was
missing has been found with Carol, I did not believe it. I took time to
believe,” Carol’s mother Serah Ngumbu told NTV.
According to her sister Jedidah, Carol met Chris
Msando when she was a student at KMTC, Karen Campus, they became friends and
later lovers.
She was aware that the two would spend time together,
and even talked with Msando on phone when they were out of town.
Jedidah once raised concern on Carol’s
relationship, owing to the fact that Msando was married.
Jedidah also asked her if she will tell their mother
about their relationship, to which Carol said they should give it time.
Since recording their statements in 2017, the
family of Carol Ngumbu says no government agency has ever reached out to them
for any follow ups on the case.
