Siaya woman gives birth at neighbour's home, leaves infant behind

The body of a newborn baby was found at a homestead in Haga village, Siaya County in a suspected infanticide incident. 

 

The body of the newborn baby was found in the homestead of Jackline Anyango and was reported to Karemo police post by the acting Assistant Chief of Bar-Agulu sub-location Grace Otieno.

 

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, officers from Karemo police post promptly visited the scene and established that 20-year-old Yvonne Atieno who is a house girl at neighboring homestead was the one who had delivered the baby.


Atieno alleged that she developed labor complications at night and tried to seek medical assistance at the nearby Bar-Agulu dispensary in vain since the facility was closed.

 

The police boss stated that in the event, the pain persisted while she was walking to the nearby homestead where she delivered and left the infant at the compound. Se disappeared from the science where the infant was found dead in the morning.

 

While confirming the incident, Mr. Kimaiyo said that the young woman was later taken to Bar- Agulu dispensary where she is undergoing examination and treatment.

He stated that the scene was processed and documented by scenes of crime personnel and the body of the infant moved to Siaya County referral hospital morgue to await autopsy.
