Siaya: Gang hacks woman to death, gang-rapes her 20-year-old niece
Police in
Siaya have launched hunt for a four-man gang that raided a home in
Nyamasare village and hacked to death a 55-year-old woman before gang-raping
her 20-year-old niece.
The
deceased, Beatrice Atieno Sulwe, was a teacher at Sirandumb Primary School.
Catherine Osodo, a close family member, said she received a distress call from the home and,
upon responding, found Ms Sulwe’s mutilated lying in a pool
of blood.
Soon after killing Ms. Sulwe, the attackers are believed to have gang-raped her niece from 8pm on Wednesday night until dawn on Thursday.
Locals however
say this is not an isolated incidence as the deceased was targeted before, but
what baffles them is the motive behind her killing.
They condemned
the killing and rape, calling on the police to speed investigations in order to
apprehend the culprits.
Speaking
to Citizen Digital on phone, Siaya County police boss Michael Muchiri also condemned
the heinous act and assured the public of a speedy probe into the matter.
Mr. Muchiri
said police have already gathered evidence from the scene and will collect
samples from the victim for processing to aid in their investigation.
The body
of the deceased has since been taken to Ambira sub-county hospital mortuary
awaiting post-mortem.
