Siaya family seeks justice after kin beaten to death as mother, wife watched helplessly
A
family in Siaya County is seeking justice after their 39-year-old kin was allegedly
attacked and killed by two suspected hired goons in Pap Yamo village.
In
the Wednesday incident, the deceased - Alloyce Ochieng Nyapola - is said to
have been ambushed and murdered in cold blood at his parents’ home.
According
to the family, the two unknown assailants whom they suspect to have been hired confronted
Alloyce as he was milking a cow outside his house, and confirmed his identity
before assaulting him with blunt objects.
The
deceased’s mother, Rosemary Akinyi, recounted how the events unfolded on the
fateful day, with the attackers beating her son to death as she begged for his
life.
“Nilikuwa
napika mahindi nikaskia sauti...kisha nikaona vijana wengine na fimbo. Mmoja
akauliza kama yeye ni Alloyce, mmoja akamchapa fimbo. Mimi nikawacha mahindi
nikatoka nje,” she recalled.
“Mmoja akanichapa mkono na kusema nikirudi
huko wataniua. Nikamwambia, si watu huzungumza… na yule mtoto walipomchapa
walimchapa kichwa mpaka ikapasuka damu ikatoka.”
Alloyce
attempted to seek refuge inside his house but the attackers pursued him inside, where they met his wife Millicent Adhiambo and also injured her
in the process.
“Mtoto
alikuwa amelala kwa nyumba nikaanza kuwabembeleza…mmoja akasema, songa huko
mama ntakuua! Songa uko tumalizane na huyu mume kwanza! Wakampiga,
nikawabembeleza wacha nichukue mtoto wakakubali...mkono ilikuwa imefura singeweza
beba ata motto, nilikuwa nimepoteza ata fahamu,” Adhiambo narrated.
The
family members are now questioning the extreme violence meted on their kin, and
insist that conflicts should be resolved through peaceful dialogue, not
bloodshed.
Sadiq
Otieno Nyapola, a first cousin of the deceased, expressed deep regret over the
incident saying post-mortem results showed that Alloyce had fractured ribs and
heart.
“I
was one of the guys who went to post-mortem , tukakutana na DCIO na daktari ,
postmortem ikafanyika vizuri sana kisa na maana ya kifo ikatambulika...maanake
post-moterm ilitoa pale jamaa alipigwa mbavu ikakua raptured…moyo ukapasuka, so
definitely inhalation na expiration ikakua shida,” he said.
The
grieving family is urging the police to conduct thorough investigations and
bring the perpetrators to justice.
