Siaya County government through the Department of Social Services is seeking to take inventory of all the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the region.

According to Bondo sub-county PWDs Coordinator Margaret Adhiambo Okech, they want to begin the registration to know the total number of persons with disabilities in the county.

She says this will help guide and inform the formulation of policies and budget allocation on issues affecting persons with disabilities in Siaya County.

Okech, who spoke to Radio Ramogi stated that to ensure a successful exercise, they will be working with community health promoters and the local administration including the chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to be able to reach out to all the PWDs.

The coordinator revealed that just as the national government has been doing through the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWDs), the county government also wants to keep an inventory of the PWDs.

She further disclosed that during the exercise, they will also be looking to establish the total number of those with professional qualifications to enable them to secure employment when opportunities arise.

Okech observed that the number of PWDs who are employed in Siaya County is still very low because the number of those with qualifications has never been established, adding that this exercise will help a great deal.
