Siaya County allocated Ksh.1.4 billion in electricity budget - Energy CS Wandayi

The government through the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has allocated more than Ksh 1.4 billion towards electrification programmes in Siaya County under the current financial year.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has revealed that Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has about Ksh.430 million and Kenya Power has over Ksh.830 million budget for expansion of electricity connectivity in the region.

Wandayi spoke at Obambo Kadhai village in Alego Usonga constituency where he commissioned an electrification project that will connect over 100 households to the national grid. He said Alego Usonga has been allocated over Ksh. 100 million in the budget.

The CS assured of President William Ruto’s commitment to deliver on his development agenda, noting that the government is investing heavily in the infrastructure for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity across the country.

He has issued a stern warning to the staff from Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and Kenya Power Company to ensure effective service delivery lest they face the axe.

The CS was flanked by Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government for the planned electricity projects in his constituency.
