Siaya: 26-year-old man surrenders to police after killing mum in tussle over land

Silas Oduor Odongo, the suspect, is said to have butchered his mother Jenifer Atieno before presenting himself to the nearby Sinaga police station.
According to the area's Assistant Chief, Mr. Franklin Odhiambo, the suspect was involved in a long-running dispute with his mother, whom he wanted to evict from some land he claimed belonged to him.
He told Radio Ramogi that the dispute dates back to 2004, when the deceased, Jenifer Atieno, is accused of murdering her husband over the same plot of land.
According to the administrator, the deceased was even imprisoned for several years for allegedly murdering her husband over a plot of land where they were supposed to build a house.
Mr. Odhiambo stated that after serving her prison sentence, the late Jenifer Atieno decided to build her home on a different parcel of land before her son Silas Oduor demanded ownership of the same parcel of land.
While confirming the incident, the Assistant Chief stated that the dispute had existed between the suspect and his mother for some time, until this morning, when he allegedly hacked her to death.
He stated that the deceased's body was taken to the Siaya County referral hospital mortuary, while the suspect is still being held by police as investigations continue.
