Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has urged Kenyans in the Mt. Kenya region to shun tribal politics and instead rally behind President William Ruto’s government.

Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations on Saturday, Waiguru said the divisive politics being advanced by a section of leaders should be rejected for the sake of national development and unity.

The Kirinyaga Governor added that the region is firmly behind President Ruto’s government to ensure it delivers on its ambitious promises to Kenyans.

"It is time for elected leaders to work for the people," Waiguru said.

Waiguru said the region has reaped big from the Kenya Kwanza government, adding that she will not be silenced by people who want to elicit unnecessary wrangles at the expense of the nation's unity.

“Kirinyaga has reaped big from its support and cooperation with the national government," Waiguru said.

Waiguru was accompanied by Kirinyaga central MP Gachoki Gitari who called on other leaders to end divisive politics and early campaigns, her Deputy Governor, and over 20 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
