Showdown looms in Siaya as DG Oduol faces summons over wrangles with Governor Orengo
A Siaya Member of County Assembly (MCA) wants Deputy
Governor William Oduol summoned over alleged wrangles between himself and his boss, Governor James
Orengo.
Yimbo East Ward MCA Francis Otiato, in a notice of
motion tabled on Thursday afternoon, demanded that Oduol be summoned to appear
before the House Committee on General Oversight to shed light into some of the
utterances he has allegedly been making against Governor Orengo and his
administration.
The MCA, in his notice, indicated that cognizant of
the important roles played by the governor and his deputy as the Chief
Executive and deputy Chief Executive of the county, respectively, in managing
and coordinating county administration, Mr. Oduol has in the recent past made
inflammatory comments on social media and in funerals against his boss.
He indicated that Mr. Oduol, in a social media platform
dubbed ‘Siaya Political Forum’, made remarks to the effect that the
administration - in which he is the deputy governor - would be worse than the
former administration.
Mr. Oduol is also accused of stating, on the same
platform, that “the Governor is a hands-off administrator who has given
questionable characters an opportunity to steal county resources unabated” as
well as that “the Governor is taking Siaya down the wrong path.”
Mr. Otiato further indicated that while at a
funeral in Alego/Usonga, the DG insinuated openly that there are discriminatory
budget reallocations to disadvantage the constituency residents, also adding
that the current bursary allocations and maize seed distribution is riddled
with corruption.
The DG, at the same funeral, also allegedly
insinuated that certain officers were being targeted for removal from the
county service because they come from Alego/Usonga, and that funds for
completion of the construction of Siaya County Stadium had been re-allocated to
build the Migwena sports center.
Mr. Odual is further accused of alleging that there
are people in the county service who want him out of the office because of his
stand against corruption.
Mr. Otiato stated therefore that such utterances by
the deputy governor signifies that he has no confidence in the county government
in which he serves as the second-in-command, hence asked the County Assembly to
invite Mr. Oduol to appear to shed light into his allegations within the next
14 days.
He also wants that the House committee, during Mr. Oduol’s
appearance, directs him to table documentary evidence to prove his allegations.
