Serial Killer? More troubling details on Eastleigh murders suspect emerge

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are still unravelling the puzzle of suspected serial killer, 24-year-old Hashim Dagane Muhumed.

The Ethiopian national of Somali descent has already been identified as the primary suspect in the recent murders of three women in Nairobi's Eastleigh neighbourhood.

According to John Onyango, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Muhumed is suspected of a history of violent crimes, including the murder of one of his wives and their three children in Ethiopia, though the circumstances surrounding his release from custody there are unknown.

Muhumed's presence in Kenya has sparked numerous questions, particularly about how he obtained a Kenyan ID and operated in the country.

"We have conducted thorough investigations into the Eastleigh killings and are actively working on these cases," Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja told the Committee on Interior Security.

"Anyone who has committed these heinous crimes will be brought to justice."

The investigation has encountered language barriers, as the suspect reportedly does not speak Swahili, making communication difficult for detectives.

However, Muhumed allegedly disclosed a disturbing intent to target larger vehicles, such as Toyota Noah vans.

Detectives believe that this murder may also be linked to the Eastleigh killings.

The Lang'ata victim, identified as Deka Abdinoor Gorone, was reported missing at the California Police Station on October 24.

Investigators have traced her last known movements through CCTV footage, showing her shopping at a Quickmart supermarket in Nairobi on October 29.

Afterward, she was seen entering a flat in Lavington with Muhumed.

According to surveillance footage, Muhumed left the Lavington apartment on October 31, carrying two bags that investigators suspect contained Gorone's remains.

Her mutilated body was later found abandoned at Lang’ata Cemetery.

Further complicating the investigation, the owner of the Lavington apartment has allegedly attempted to conceal evidence, reportedly cleaning and repainting the premises before going into hiding.

Authorities are actively pursuing him for questioning.
