Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has given his Busia counterpart Okiya Omtatah a tip on running a successful presidential campaign, one that will require him to break the bank.

This is after Omtatah announced his interest in the 2027 polls on Saturday after he formed a 10-member committee to assess his candidacy.

Shortly after Omtatah went public, Senator Cherargei told him that he would need a minimum of Ksh.7 billion amongst other requirements that would make him outrun his opponents.

"While I wish you well in your Presidential bid there are few things you need to be aware of such as to run a successful presidential campaign you need a minimum of [Ksh] 7B," Cherargei wrote on X.

He added that Omtatah will also require an established voting bloc and grass roots networks, which are impeded by scarce social media engagement.

Cherargei further added that Omtatah's bid might be a toll order given he will be contesting against President William Ruto "who outwitted & outsmarted the government candidate Raila Odinga in 2022 General elections".

Omtatah said that the 10-member committee will play a pivotal role in making strategic preparations ahead of the polls.

"This committee will thoroughly assess the viability of my candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Its primary focus will be to engage with the public, gather input on the most pressing challenges facing our nation, and determine how best to address these issues with bold and innovative leadership," he said.

Omtatah will fight for the nation's top seat against other candidates who have hinted interest in the presidency among them Fred Matiang'i, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and President Ruto.
