Search on for man who hacked father to death over Ksh.200K loaned to sister

Police in Rongo sub county are pursuing a 37-year-old man accused of killing his biological father at Nyangau village in Rongo sub county, Migori County.

While it remains unclear why Geoffrey Agunga hacked his father Agunga Riwa to death, family members speculate that it might be linked to the Ksh.200,000 the suspect gave his sister several months ago.

The deceased son Jason Ouma said that Geoffrey had been at loggerheads with his parents for several weeks after his sister failed to pay back the money he loaned her while he was still working in Qatar.

Before the gruesome murder, Ouma said the suspect confronted his mother over the money and when he failed to get a response he went to his father who was making his way into their home and attacked him.

He claims that the suspect has been demanding the payment to be made by the parents.

According to eye witness Maurice Otieno, the suspect engaged his father for about five minutes before hacking him with a machete.

"I was working at Mzee Aguga's home and immediately Geoffrey came and we saw them talk before he hit him with a panga. He gave him four deep cuts at the forehead, face, shoulder and arm," Otieno said.

The deceased was rushed to Rongo sub-county hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rongo sub county police commander Salim Fundi said that the police are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for the suspect who is still at large.
