Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit has accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of harassing political leaders by issuing regular summons against them.

The Governor spoke on Tuesday after answering DCI summons on the ongoing surge in banditry in the county.

Governor Lelelit had been summoned for a second time  in one month by officers from the DCI Rift Valley region to shed light into the ongoing incidence of banditry in Samburu County.

His time with DCI lasted 10 minutes and he reportedly signed crucial documents provided by the investigators before leaving.

Meanwhile,  in Samburu County, armed bandits who had planned to lay an ambush at Morijo area along the Maralal - Baragoi Road on Tuesday morning were repulsed by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers.

Samburu County Commander Thomas Ototo confirmed that officers scuttled the plan that was aimed at paralyzing transport along the route. Tension however remains high in the area.
