Sam Gituku: Meet the newest 'Gangster' in town
The new 'gangster' was none other than Sam Gituku, who joins the programme following the exit of former Citizen TV Political Affairs Editor Francis Gachuri, who just recently moved to the Ministry of Interior as Head of Communications.
Sam Gituku, a veteran broadcast journalist, is well-known for his outstanding ability to break down complex topics and numbers in a way that is easily understandable to the audience.
Sam has been working in the media industry since 2012, when he was hired as a Radio Correspondent for Royal Media Services-owned Radio Citizen and was based in Machakos County before rising to be a morning show TV host.
Since then, he has become a well-respected figure in Kenyan journalism, with a reputation for telling technical but important stories in an engaging and comprehensible manner.
In his role as a television host and news reporter for Citizen TV, Sam continues to bring his data analysis skills to the fore, analysing issues ranging from politics, economy, and current affairs.
He speaks to policy formulators and implementers on various issues of public concern, providing valuable insights to viewers. Sam has interviewed some of the most notable faces in Kenyan politics and public affairs, including President William Ruto and Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Sam has covered some of the biggest stories in Kenya and beyond. He was a lead reporter in Kenya's General Election of 2017, covering the electoral management by the electoral commission, the presidential election results tallying, and declaration.
He later covered the landmark hearing and determination of the Presidential Election petition at the Supreme Court, which resulted in the nullification of the election. Sam was also a frontline reporter of the April 2015 terror attack at Garissa University, where 147 people were killed. In addition, he covered the US Presidential election from Washington DC in 2016.
Sam's education background includes a BSc. in Information Science from Moi University, a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi, and he is also a Certified Public Accountant. Currently, he is pursuing an Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation (EMMLI) at the Aga Khan University.
With his rare skill for breaking down complex topics and numbers, combined with his data analysis expertise, Sam is undoubtedly a valuable asset for the New’s Gang team.
Sam will be appearing on the show alongside RMS Editorial Director Linus Kaikai, Managing Editor (Swahili) Jamila Mohamed and Senior news anchor and current Business News Editor Yvonne Okwara.
With Linus operating under 'Kaikai's Kicker,' Yvonne and Jamila with' Yvonne's Take' and 'Jamila's Memo' respectively, Sam’s header will be ‘Sam’s Sense.’
