Ruto will not attend debate – Jubilee
The ruling Jubilee Party maintains that its presidential running mate, William Ruto, will not appear for the debates currently taking place at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi.
In a statement, The Presidency Secretary of Communication, David Mugonyi, said “Jubilee declined to take part in the debates for well-considered, reasons and made public numerous issues of a fundamental character.”
He, however, failed to make public the reasons.
Further, he accused the Opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) of failing in its campaign agenda and focusing on ‘aping Jubilee’.
“Jubilee declined to take part in the debates. NASA immediately aped Jubilee against its real inclination and contrary to their actual wishes and interests,” read the statement in part.
“Now they want to participate. But they will not because Jubilee is steadfast in its resolution.”
On Sunday, July 16, 2017, Deputy President, William Ruto, through his twitter handle, said that he would not attend the debate since he was not consulted by the organisers.
Hours later, NASA’s Kalonzo Musyoka hinted that he would also be skipping the debate but did not give reasons for his decision.
