Ruto, Sakaja unveil key projects in Dagoretti and Uthiru during Nairobi development tour

On the third day of President William Ruto’s development tour in Nairobi, his convoy made its way through Uthiru and Dagoretti, bringing a host of development projects to the region.

Accompanied by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and other local leaders, President Ruto inspected the expansion of Nairobi County’s Mutuini Hospital, which is set to undergo a major facelift.

Addressing residents, Ruto assured them that the facility would be completed within four months and officially opened by August 2025.

“This facility is crucial for the people of Nairobi, and we will ensure it is completed on time. The contractors will be on-site, and I will be back in August to officially open it,” Ruto confirmed.

Governor Sakaja echoed the commitment to timely completion, emphasizing the county’s dedication to improving healthcare services.

“The hospital’s expansion will ease congestion in major referral hospitals in Nairobi by offering specialized services, including a new ICU, HDU, expanded pharmacy, laboratories, and specialized clinics catering to pediatric, gynecological, and renal care,” Sakaja stated.

Beyond healthcare, the government is also focusing on improving trade infrastructure. President Ruto and Governor Sakaja officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riruta Modern Market in Dagoretti South, a project aimed at uplifting small-scale traders.

The Riruta market is part of a broader initiative that includes additional markets under construction in Majimazuri, Jogoo Road, and Kangemi.

In Mutuini Ward, over 600 traders will benefit from a soon-to-be-completed modern market, which will provide safe and structured business spaces. The facility will also include a daycare center to support mothers balancing business and childcare.

“We have agreed that this market will be completed in two months, and we will support traders with capital to boost their businesses,” said President Ruto.

Sakaja reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing trade spaces, aligning with his vision of constructing at least 20 new markets across Nairobi.

“It is time to work and deliver. We must put aside our differences and divisive politics to serve the great people of this county and country. We are committed to fulfilling all our promises,” Sakaja emphasized.

Further, the duo laid the foundation stone for the Dagoretti Jitume Centre of Excellence in Nairobi, marking a significant step toward fostering digital skills and innovation among the youth. They also conducted an inspection tour of the Kawangware Primary Junior Secondary School Tuition Block.

The development tour continues this week, with more projects expected to be launched across Nairobi.
