Ruto puts all contractors handling gov't projects on notice

President William Ruto inspects the construction of the Kisii Cancer Centre on January 1, 2025.

President William Ruto has put on notice all contractors handling national government projects, saying it will not be business as usual in the new year for those who are slacking on the job.

Speaking while touring the site of the multi-billion cancer centre in Kisii, President Ruto indicated his disappointment at the snail's pace of the project, whose groundbreaking he led in August 2024.

The stern talk comes months after the government came under sharp criticism for abandoning key infrastructural projects.

The Ksh.2.2 billion cancer centre was set to be completed in February 2026 to ease the burden of cancer treatment for residents within the Lake Region.

"There is no fight there is no quarrel we just have to do what we want to do and I will not allow this kind of thing because you have been paid all the money there is no certificate pending there is no reason whatsoever why this project is not on that information needs to be clear there are so many contractors letting us down and we will not allow that this is the year of delivery," Ruto said.
