Ruto has failures but we must also count benefits - Kiunjuri

Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri has urged Kenyans to be patient with President William Ruto’s government as he implements his campaign pledges.

“Dr. Ruto has failures, but we must also count benefits accrued within 3 years,” said MP Kiunjuri.

Speaking at Muhotetu AIPCA Church on Sunday, Kiunjuri dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claim that the region had been neglected by the government of the day.

"Those telling us to decamp from government forget that Laikipia is disadvantaged and was marginalized by successive governments. We can't compare Laikipia with their regions. Under Kikuyu presidencies we suffered insecurity, discriminated matters development, why do we want to be misled on tribal basis?” posed Kiunjuri.

Kiunuri, alongside Laikipia Woman Rep Jane Kagiri and Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani said the former DP was hiding behind the community to shield his inefficiency and for personal political gains.

The leaders affirmed that Laikipia County had been neglected, but has recorded promising development with President Ruto's government.

Presiding Bishop Joseph Gathege of the AIPCA Laikipia-Samburu Diocese said the church supports the government of the day, warning that the church would not allow to be misled in fighting or vacating Dr Ruto's government.

He admitted that SHA has challenges which are progressively been addressed. He also noted that the government is improving on higher education funding model.

Kiunjuri challenged the former DP to single out any development he achieved for the region in the two years he deputised Ruto.

"Kenya is a multi-ethnic country, if there is a bad law it affects every Kenyan not a single community. If law is not discriminative, why are they telling leave the government as a community and not as Kenyans", posed Mr Kiunjuri.

He said Mt Kenya region will still need to make alliances in 2027, but will be guided by regional interests and will support leaders with a proven performance track and keen interest on Laikipia County.

On her part, Laikipia Woman Rep vowed to remain in Kenya Kwanza government and lobby for local development from within.

Laikipia West MP Wachira Karani said Ruto’s administration has enhanced security through training and deployment of 360 KPR officers. He said Laikipia County is cosmopolitan and won't be swayed into divisive politics.
