Ruto deserves credit for supporting Raila's AU bid, Senator Onyonka argues

“I want to give President William Ruto the credit he deserves. This is what statesmanship is all about. That in politics it is not that the winner always takes it all. There are times when you let it go, and other times you hold on to it. This is a good move politically,” stated Onyonka.

Speaking during Citizen TV’s Daybreak on Tuesday, the Senator commended President Ruto for showing support to Raila, adding that it will be Kenya’s position if Raila acquires the job.  

“I encourage President Ruto for coming out and support Raila because at this point this position is not Raila’s, it is Kenya’s position. It will be a historical position if Raila ends up getting it,” asserted the Senator.

Onyonka further called on Kenyan politicians to support Raila, adding that there are times when leaders need to come together to champion matters that touch on the country’s interests.

 “The Kenyan political class has to realise that we cannot be hating each other all the time. We always forget that Ruto, Raila, Musalia, and Wetangula have been together almost 30 years, and at some point, there are instances where they pull themselves together to do things for the interest of the country,” stated the Senator.

Onyonka also expressed his expectations in Raila first focusing on the East Africa region once he acquires the AUC position, considering the support he has garnered from the region.

“I hope that once Raila settles into the job he will first look at the region of East Africa which has supported him very well,” expressed Onyonka.

The Senator’s sentiments come after President William Ruto and Raila Odinga met at Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s home in Kisozi on Monday to discuss Raila's bid for the AUC Chairmanship.
