Royal Media Services MD Wachira Waruru mourns Leonard Mambo Mbotela

Royal Media Services Managing Director Wachira Waruru has mourned the late legendary broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela who passed away on Friday morning.

The 84-year-old, well known for his iconic ‘Jee, Huu ni Ungwana?’ TV segment on KBC, died at around 9:30 a.m. after a long illness.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of veteran broadcast personality Leonard Mambo Mbotela. With it, the curtain has come down on a long, successful and consequential broadcast careers in Kenya,” said Waruru in his message of condolence.

“Leonard Mambo Mbotela’s groundbreaking role in radio commentary and presentation is forever cemented in the media history of our country, and indeed the entire Kiswahili speaking East Africa region.”

He added: “Mambo was more than an icon; he was an institution. May he rest in eternal peace.”

Mbotela’s younger brother Donald disclosed that the celebrated broadcaster had been hospitalised for the last two weeks.

He leaves behind a wife, Alice, and three children: Aida, Jimmy, and George.
