Rongai: Two women arrested for selling bhang disguised as cigarettes
Police in Rongai,
Kajiado County, on Saturday morning arrested two women for possessing and
distributing narcotic substances including bhang, cleverly concealed as
cigarettes to avoid detection.
A team of
detectives from the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Authority
for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) swung into action
after receiving word that the suspects were selling the drugs at a homestead
under the guise of selling high-end dogs.
"A
multi-agency team, including the police sniffer dog unit and NGAO NPS, executed
a raid based on intelligence reports of drug distribution activities," a
police report documenting the incident reads in part.
"The
homestead, cleverly disguised with iron sheets and other materials, served as a
front for the illicit activities with the decoys of keeping high end dogs. The
setup allowed the suspects to package and distribute the drugs without arousing
suspicion from the outside."
According to
police, the drugs were cleverly hidden inside Oris cigarette packs
"Upon arrival
at the targeted homestead, the team discovered a variety of plant substances
suspected to be cannabis, along with several other supporting machines. The
packaging of cannabis was done under the disguise of Oris cigarettes," the
police report adds.
"It is
believed that the suspects use children in the process of packaging and
distribution of the said drugs."
The two women were
subsequently booked at Ongata Rongai Police Station before being transferred to
Muthaiga Police station where they remain pending arraignment on Monday at the
JKIA Law Courts.
