Robert Nagila on Monday paid glowing tribute to his late partner, journalist Rita Tinina, during a requiem mass at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi.

In the moving tribute, Nagila said he was shattered when he learnt of the untimely death of Tinina.

"The last few days the first question I have received from well-wishers is, how are you doing? As I stand here today, the answer to that question is, I am broken," Nagila started his tributes.

He said whereas broken things can be amended, the loss of a loved one is absolute.

Nagila said his departed partner established her legacy just shy of her 46th birthday.

"We are all here because Rita impacted our lives in a special way. Rita, when our paths first crossed, your beauty, hearty laughter and warm heart touched me. You were also the most stubborn person I ever met. Principled in your beliefs," Nagila narrated.

He remembered how her phone stopped ringing on Sunday, only to discover that she had died in her sleep. A postmortem indicated Rita succumbed to severe pneumonia.

Turning to his daughter, Nagila said her mother loved her so much and could do anything for her.

"My dearest Nia, your mother loved you more than anything else in this world. You were her best friend, a confidant in many respects, and everything she did was centred around you and your future," he said.

He added that Rita valued family and she was close to her siblings, nieces and nephews.

Rita was a producer with NTV until her demise.

She will be buried at their family home in Narok on Wednesday.

She leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter.
