Rixxos Club drama: Victim of alleged harassment records statement with police
The National Police Service (NPS) now has the green light to proceed with legal action
against Rixxos Lounge in Kitengela after an employee captured in a now-viral
video being allegedly harassed by her employer recorded a statement with the
police.
The employee, together with her five colleagues, reported to Kitengela Police Station on Friday following
a directive by the NPS.
“Nilikujiwa asubuhi kwangu nikapelekwa
nikaandikishwa statement…niliandika hapo chochote chenye kilifanyika,” said the
victim.
She accused the director of the
club only identified as James of using his alleged connections with people in high
places to intimidate them.
On the said day, the victim
together with her colleagues had gone to collect their November salaries only
to run into a confrontation with the alleged owner, who is popularly referred to as Jaymo.
“Instead of greeting us, alianza na matusi
kutuambia ‘you prostitutes what are you doing in my club? I can chase you away’,”
she narrated.
Another stated: “Tukamwuliza mbona hataki
kutulipa na hatuna makossa, hatukuchukua pesa yake.”
However, the club management
in a statement has defended the actions seen in the viral video saying the
waitresses and the barman stormed the Rixxos premises and threatened the management
leading to the drama that ensued.
The management said the six workers were under investigation following suspicions of
stealing and defrauding the company; claims which the complainants have dismissed as false.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have called on the police to take
quick action against the alleged owner.
Police have intensified the
search for the alleged owner who has since gone into hiding.
