Twenty one bodies of victims of the River
Enziu tragedy were on Wednesday released to their families after a positive forensic
identification.
The family members are presently collecting the
bodies, even as they say they want to transfer their loved ones to
well-equipped funeral homes.
The families complained of incapacity of
Mwingi Level 4 Hospital mortuary to hold huge number of bodies, noting that there
might be cases of decomposition.
However, Kitui Health CEC Dr. Winnie Kitetu
said all bodies of victims of the river accident had been properly embalmed and
were well kept.
The CEC noted that only bodies that have been
positively identified by use of fingerprints and DNA analysis would be released
to respective families.
Some of the bereaved families appealed to the government to hasten
the identification process to allow grieving families move the bodies to other
funeral homes.
A requiem mass for all the victims is set to be
conducted at St Joseph's Seminary in Mwingi town.
