Rigathi: I gave Uhuru money to campaign in 2013, he never questioned the source until I supported Ruto
Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua now claims that he
funded President Kenyatta's campaign in the 2013 General Election, without
questions on the source of his funds arising.
According to Gachagua, questions about his source of funds only began after he declared allegiance
to DP Ruto who is seeking the top job in August.
Speaking on Citizen TVs Daybreak show on Monday, MP Gachagua
said that the President knew he had businesses even while working as his
personal assistant.
Gachagua claims the Head of State turned his back on him as soon
as he switched camps.
"If Ruto is the problem, and I ask President Kenyatta
because he is my friend and these corruption cases he put against me, I stayed
with him as his personal assistant, I gave him money for his campaign in 2013,
he knows I'm a businessman and he didn't ask me the source then," he
posed.
He added: "...All those years
I have stayed with him his government did not have a problem with me until I
said I cannot leave Ruto."
The legislator argued that Uhuru took advantage of DP Ruto's support to ascend
into power then ditched him once he was in office.
He said that they were chastised by the President right from the
onset of their first meeting after winning elections.
" If Uhuru Kenyatta knew that Ruto is a thief and Ruto
cannot help him to run government, he had an opportunity to change him in 2017
and get another running mate but he waited until Ruto has helped him ascend to
the presidency, once he ascended, he fought him very hard," said Gachagua.
"The very first meeting in State House he gave signs that
he wants to shaft Ruto, in fact he had already started to abuse us before the
meeting was cancelled."
He further hinted that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) boss
will choose his running mate from the Mt.Kenya region.
"We have our National Delegates Conference (NDC) on the
15th of March to unveil our presidential candidate William Samoei Ruto, other
things will follow. As far as I am concerned, the running mate will come from
the mountain at the appropriate time."
