President William Ruto on Saturday attended
the episcopal installation of Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi as the Bishop
of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
A military ordinariate is a jurisdiction
within the Catholic Church that provides spiritual care to members of the armed
forces.
It functions similarly to a diocese but is
tailored specifically for military personnel, ensuring that they have access to
pastoral care and religious services regardless of where they are stationed.
In his speech, President Ruto underlined the
pivotal role played by the church in deepening national unity.
“Our presence here today underscores our
commitment to support our forces in every way, including spiritually. To ensure
that our defence forces remain strong, a faith-based support structure is
critical in upholding the values that guide our men and women in uniform,"
he said.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to
the welfare of the armed forces, adding that the government will continue to
modernise the equipment and other facilities for the military.
“To the military, it is my prayer that as you
protect the country and serve humanity here in Kenya and elsewhere in the
world, you remain committed to your noble duties,” he said.
