Residents of Uaso Narok scheme protest planned eviction

Residents from Uaso Narok Scheme in Nyahururu Sub County have protested plans by the government to evict them.

The residents claim their eviction is intended to pave the way for the erection of an electric fence to wade off marauding elephants from South Marmanet Forest.

However, they said they legally acquired the land and were awarded title deeds by the government after they were resettled following their eviction from South Marmanet Forest over two decades ago.

Through their leaders John Barno and Stephen Lugwist, the residents said they have genuine land ownership documents issued by the government, hence will not vacate nor allow the implementation of a community project within the scheme without their involvement.

Barno said they hold title deeds for the parcels of land they occupy and have been living on the land for many years after being allocated in the past.

Igwamiti Ward MCA Irene Wachuka echoed the sentiments saying the government should first remove a caveat imposed by well-known individuals, a move she said has hampered meaning development implementation in the area.
