Rally driver Maxine Wahome released on Ksh.100K cash bail after allegedly assaulting boyfriend
Kenyan
rally driver Maxine Wahome has been released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail pending
investigations into an incident where she is accused of assaulting her
boyfriend.
Milimani
Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi directed that Wahome reports to the case
Investigating Officer Stephen Kibei at the Kilimani Police Station weekly.
Wahome
was arrested on December 12, 2022 at an apartment in Kilimani after allegedly
assaulting and inflicting serious injuries on her boyfriend, Asad Khan.
Asad’s
brother, Adila Khan, reported the matter to the police after being informed of
the incident by the management of the apartment.
According
to a court report seen by Citizen Digital, Kilimani Police Station officers visited
the scene and found that Asad had already been rushed to hospital, whereas Wahome
was still present but appeared “disturbed since some household goods were
littered on the floor and staircase.”
“On
further examination, one of the window pane glasses was broken as well as two
door window pane glasses were also broken,” added the court document.
The
victim, Asad, was initially admitted at the High Dependency Unit of the Nairobi
Hospital with serious deep cuts on the right ankle, but was later transferred
to Avenue Hospital where he is being treated.
The
court report added that Asad is still not in a position to give a satisfactory
account of the incident, further that Wahome is however fully cooperating with
investigators.
“The
scene was documented where forensic evidence to wit blood stains and other
items were collected and the respondent was escorted to Kilimani Police Station
where she was booked for the offence of grievous harm,” added the report.
The
celebrated rally driver spent a day in custody, with police requesting the
court to allow them 14 more days to detain her saying; “The continued detention of the respondent is immensely
necessary for the furtherance and finalizing of the investigations, her release
could further lead to interference with the investigations and a flight risk as
has not disclosed her fixed abode.”
Investigating
Officer Kibei sought the time to record a statement from Asad as well as
witnesses of the incident, and trace – if any – Wahome’s accomplices.
The
officer further sought to subject the recovered mobile and SIM cards recovered
from Wahome to cyber analysis, and obtain data records from her phone as
well as that of Asad to confirm their location at the time of the incident.
He
also wants to take both Wahome and Asad for DNA sampling, and then take her fingerprints
for forwading to the criminal records registry to ascertain her criminal record.
