The Kenya Meteorological Department said on Monday that the rainfall experienced in several parts of the country last week continues through Tuesday this week.

An advisory from the meteorological agency said isolated heavy rainfall events are likely in the central Kenya regions of Embu, Tharaka and Kirinyanga, as well as parts of Uasin Gishu.

In the capital Nairobi, heavy rainfall is expected in the Dagoretti North and Westlands areas.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Met Department issued an advisory warning of rainfall across Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Central Highlands (including Nairobi), the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands, parts of the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western regions.

It said isolated storms and heavy rainfall events were likely in some areas.

Kenya is recording the onset of the "long rains" season, the major rainfall period which typically occurs from March to May.
