Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party
leader Raila Odinga has reiterated his commitment to end the alleged
mishandling of the election process in Kenya.
Speaking
in Yatta in Machakos County on Friday, Odinga took a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza
government accusing them of rigging the August 2022 presidential polls, at the
same time vowing that the opposition team will not condone such malpractice again.
According
to the opposition chief, the only way for the country to achieve peace and move
forward is to guarantee its citizens free and fair elections.
He,
therefore, committed that the opposition would put the President William
Ruto-led regime to account and ensure transparency in the agencies mandated
with undertaking the polling process.
“We
want to make rigging a very expensive enterprise that nobody will ever again
think of rigging elections in this country. Without resolving this matter
convincingly, there will be no peace in this country,” Odinga stated.
“Kenyans
will not go back to elections in 2027 and elections be rigged again; it will
never happen again. It will never happen means Kenyans will never accept it.”
The
former premier, who maintained that he trounced President Ruto in the 2022
polls, cited what he claimed was Azimio’s popularity in other elective positions
hence insisting that there was “no way we could have lost.”
Odinga
also called to question Chief Justice Martha Koome’Ss conduct, blaming her for the
alleged “unfairness” she meted to Azimio while administering the Supreme Court
verdict on the election petition.
“Everybody
was at fault…when we went to the Supreme Court, we thought we would get justice
but instead got insults,” he stated.
“Martha
Koome read that she was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that IEBC deployed
Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). How did it come in the ruling? It means the ruling
was written somewhere by somebody else.”
