Raila mourns longtime aide and bodyguard George Oduor

Odinga expressed profound sadness over Oduor's death in a heartfelt statement, describing him as a steadfast and professional companion who had been a member of his family since the late 1980s.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has announced the death of George Oduor, his long-time personal aide and bodyguard, after a brief illness on Tuesday evening in Nairobi.

Odinga expressed profound sadness over Oduor's death in a heartfelt statement, describing him as a steadfast and professional companion who had been a member of his family since the late 1980s.

"George has been a part of Jaramogi's and my family since the late 80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together," Odinga said, paying tribute to Oduor’s decades of loyalty and service.

Odinga praised Oduor as a "vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide" who remained committed to duty even in difficult circumstances.

He acknowledged Oduor's close friends and colleagues, as well as his own family, had suffered a significant loss.

"I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already," he stated.

On behalf of his wife, Ida Odinga, and the Jaramogi Odinga family as a whole, the ODM leader expressed condolences to Oduor's widow, Carol George, his family, and friends.

"To his wife, Carol George, entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida's and the entire Jaramogi family's sincere condolences at this devastating loss," he said.

The late George Oduor provided Odinga with security and support during various political transitions and challenges.

His death marks the end of a long history of devotion and service to one of Kenya's most prominent political figures.
