'Raila is lucky he has never been elected President, he would be unpopular!' Lee Njiru says
Former State House Press Secretary Lee Njiru has claimed that opposition chief Raila Odinga is fortunate not to have become the President of Kenya throughout his extensive political career, spanning decades.
Speaking
on Citizen TV's JKLive Show on Wednesday, Njiru argued that despite Raila's
political acumen and qualifications, the
former premiere would have likely been an unpopular president due to his
inability to address the significant challenges facing Kenyans.
According
to Njiru, like previous presidents, Raila might have struggled with the complex
issues at the heart of Kenya's socio-economic challenges.
"He is lucky because he has never been elected President...because if he is elected President he will be very unpopular because no one can handle the monumental problems facing Kenyans," Njiru told show host Jeff Koinange.
"I would advise him to pretend that he wants to be president but at the back of his mind he shouldn't."
Njiru also spoke on the alleged truce between a faction of the opposition, led by Raila, and President William Ruto's government, which led to the formation of a new broad-based Cabinet that included some prominent opposition leaders as ministers.
Despite
widespread claims that Raila was the mastermind behind the deal, the former
premier has consistently denied brokering the agreement, maintaining that he
was not involved in talks that brought the opposition into government.
Njiru
painted a picture of Raila as a master of political maneuvering who he claims puts his personal interests first before those of Kenyans.
"I have been watching Raila for a long time. He studied in communist East Germany and I tend to believe that he imbibed this communist theory about the disorganisation and reorganisation of organised organisations. Wherever Raila enters, he has to disorganize and reorganize it to suit his own interests. He did it in KANU...during the time of Presidents Moi, Kibaki and Uhuru. He has done it once more," said Njiru
"Politics
is not rigid; it is malleable. Like the neck of a goose you can twist it but it
eventually turns towards the stomach. Raila and his people need to eat and he
has confessed that that is his objective."
To
push his point home, Njiru referenced a metaphorical exchange between Raila and former President Mwai Kibaki, where the opposition chief allegedly threatened to
create unrest, following the contentious 2007 polls, if Kibaki did not share "honey" with him.
"He told Kibaki...if you stay up there eating honey and you are not giving me some, I will light a fire down here and when I do, I will obtain two objectives...hit your bottom and make you uncomfortable and the honey will melt and I will wait for it right here. Raila is looking for honey, however you look at it," he said.
