Raila confident in AUC bid ahead of Saturday’s vote

Kenya’s African Union Commission (AUC) candidate, Raila Odinga, is full of optimism as the upcoming elections approach.

In an address, he expressed complete confidence in his chances but also acknowledged the uncertainty of the outcome.

"I will go for the AU elections on Saturday. If I win, well and good. If I don’t, so be it. I am confident that, with God’s will, we shall succeed. If we win, we have succeeded. If we lose, we have also succeeded," Odinga said, striking a measured yet determined tone.

Despite his confidence, he made it clear that the stakes, though important, were not the end-all.

"It is the final stretch for Raila Odinga’s African Union chairmanship bid as heads of state from across the continent prepare to cast their votes on Saturday," he reflected, emphasizing that he would accept the election results no matter the outcome.

He also assured his supporters that regardless of the result, "I remain a proud son of Kenya."

As he prepared for the election, Odinga took a quiet moment for prayer at the Bomas of Kenya.

The event, organized by women leaders from the ODM party, was a show of unity and spiritual support, led by ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga.

“You have stood with the women of this country, and that is why we are standing with you,” Wanga declared, underscoring the deep connection between Odinga and his supporters.

Political tensions in Kenya also came to the forefront at the event, with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja's appearance causing a stir.

Sakaja, wearing an orange scarf representing ODM, paired it with a tie in UDA colors, prompting speculation about a potential political shift.

"Sakaja, I think you are ready to cross over to this side," MP George Aladwa of Makadara suggested, with Wanga adding, “As Aladwa has said, think about it."

Sakaja’s later decision to remove his UDA-colored tie only fueled rumors about his allegiance.

Nonetheless, Odinga threw his full support behind the Nairobi Governor, noting, "I want to leave Nairobi in safe hands, with this young man here."

In addition to the elections, Odinga condemned the increasing cases of abductions under President William Ruto’s administration, calling them a blatant violation of the Constitution.
