Raila claims IEBC boss Chebukati colluding with Kenya Kwanza to stuff ballot boxes
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party
presidential candidate Raila Odinga now claims the Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has colluded with the
Kenya Kwanza alliance to stuff ballot boxes on election day.
Speaking in Kiambu County on Wednesday, Odinga
said the IEBC boss should bring back public trust in the election process.
The Azimio leader, who campaigned in
President Uhuru Kenyatta's Gatundu backyard, said his first assignment if
elected to the top office will be to lower the cost of living.
“Tunajua walikuwa
wanataka kuweka polling stations kama elfu kumi pahali ambapo wataweza kuingiza
kura mia mbili – mia mbili wapate kura milioni mbili ziada ya uwongo,” said
Odinga.
Odinga said his coalition will not take
anything less than a manual register as backup.
“We must have a manual register along with biometric
identification of the voters on that polling day, kabla ya hiyo hakuna
uchaguzi,” he said.
Azimio Secretary
General Junet Mohamed, on his part, said: “Wafula Chebukati, come clean, come
out clearly and tell Kenyans about that matter. This is not a matter that can
be taken lightly. Ballot paper is a very critical instrument in the electoral
process.”
Mombasa Governor
Hassan Joho stated: “Jana niliskia jamaa mmoja akiongea, anasema eti Wetangula
anajisifu kwamba yeye na Chebukati ni cousins…eti wanatoka nyumba moja…na
watapanga mpango mmoja…jaribu kupanga uone!”
