Questions CS Ababu will be responding to while apprearing before parliament
In order papers seen by Citizen Digital, the minister will be grilled on a plethora of contentious matters starting with the role of the Ministry in facilitating the Kenyan team that attended the Special Olympics games held in Berlin, Germany in June 2023.
On the matter, he will be expected to elucidate on why the team jetted out of the country without the CS or a representative from the Ministry flagging them off.
He will also explain why he did not deem it reasonable to receive and celebrate the team for their monumental performance upon their return back to the country.
The last question on the matter will seek to address what measures the ministry is putting in place "to ensure the anomaly of ill-treating athletes doesn’t recur again."
The second matter CS Namwamba will be expected to shed light on the management of Aquatic Sports in the Country.
The plenary will want to be appraised with an explanation on why Kenya Aquatics has historically been unable to comply with rules and decisions of World Aquatics, including holding elections even after a Stabilization Committee was established on 28th June 2022.
Namwamba will also need to explain the efforts that the Ministry has put in place to ensure that Kenya Aquatics Stabilization Committee conducts elections and also when the elections will be conducted.
He will be needed to reveal how the ministry will facilitate Kenyan swimmers to participate in the World Aquatics event scheduled for February 2024 in Doha, Qatar and in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
Finally, he will be required to state how the ministry plans to address discrimination, unfairness and opaqueness in the selection criteria of swimmers participating in various swimming competitions.
The proposal to question Namwamba was fronted before the House on August 17 by Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah who expressed dissatisfaction with how the Sports CS is steering the ministry, demanding a look into his performance.
Ichung'wah said it is appalling to see teams jetting back into the country yet no one from the Sports Ministry bothers to celebrate or receive them.
His sentiments were backed by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei who alleged that Sports ministry officials travel with "girlfriends" at the expense of the nation's top sports representatives.
Other leaders who have joined the censure bandwagon include National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.
