Protests to resume next Wednesday - Azimio

The Azimio coalition has announced that it will resume demos to protest against the high cost of living next Wednesday.

During a press briefing held at the SKM Command Centre on Saturday, Azimio leaders said the protests will be peaceful.

Usawa Kwa Wote Party leader Mwangi wa Iria, who was present during the press briefing, said the opposition is not willing to engage the Kenya Kwanza government, adding that atrocities had been meted out on some citizens.

"Our peaceful demos will continue next Wednesday and we will notify all OCSs in the country," he said.

Wa Iria condemned police attacks on civilians, adding that they were targeted in certain areas.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also addressed the matter of meeting envoys during the presser, saying, "American British, Danish and UN representatives and ambasadors came to my residence but we agreed not to talk to the media."

He continued, "They were very concerned that peaceful demos turned violent."

Kalonzo said Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Narc-Kenya's Martha Karua and ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya sent their apologies as they could not attend the press briefing.

Kalonzo demanded the immediate release of all Azimio leaders and supporters that are still being detained.
