Probe as girl still missing 2 weeks after being sent to supermarket in Nairobi's South B
Police in Nairobi are investigating the mysterious disappearance of a
12-year-old pupil who was last seen at Hazina area of South-B estate.
Akolde Dut Paul was sent to a nearby
supermarket on the 23rd of March to purchase powdered milk.
According to her aunt Panda Paul, this was
not the first time Akolde had been sent to the supermarket 400m away and
returned safely.
Her aunt however felt that she had taken
too long to get back home.
“After
work supermarkets are always full… I thought maybe there are queues but when it
got to 6.20 I got worried and rushed to the supermarket to check. She wasn’t
there…,” adds the aunt.
Unknown to the aunt, a lot had transpired at the supermarket. CCTV footage at
the supermarket captures Akolde along one of the aisle. She spent around 30
minutes hovering around the section that had chocolates and sweets.
Finally she did get to the stand that had powdered milk that she been sent for,
but having spent too much in time at the candy section she caught the attention
of management.
The store security caught up with her at the cashier's section where they
claimedshe had shoplifted a bar of chocolate.
It is then that they confiscated all she had and asked her to bring her
parents.
The walks to different police stations have become the duty of each
family member present, her uncle Luelbai Malok who travelled from South Sudan,
their country of origin has also been knocking on doors.
“I went and recorded a separate case at
the DCI Headquarters. They sent me to the child protection unit they also have
the case and are investigating…,” added Malok
The community is now exploring diplomatic means to pile pressure on authorities
to do more as days go by.
Meanwhile, the guardians are calling on Akolde
or her captors if any, to reunite them with her safe and sound.
