Father John Maina Ndegwa from Igwamiti catholic whose body was found last week on Thursday is to be laid to rest today.
The Mass is being presided over by Bishop Joseph Mbatia and attended by priests, christians and a section of local leaders at the Tabor Hill Spirituality centre in Ol-Joro Oork constituency.
Father John was found dumped on the roadside along Gilgil-Nairobi Highway. According to the DCI, the priest told the good Samaritan, a boda boda rider, that he had been abducted from Nyahururu.
The DCI also said that Fr. Maina was reportedly targeted by individuals who were demanding a share of a donation allegedly given to him by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The donation was made during a church event on April 27, which the late priest presided over and was attended by several politicians.
“Fr. Maina was being trailed by some individuals who were demanding a share of the money allegedly given to him after the Silver Jubilee Anniversary Ceremony,” the DCI had revealed.
The priest had reportedly expressed fears for his life to those close to him, although no official report was filed with the police.
Initially, reports claimed that Fr. Maina was already dead when the boda boda rider found him however it was later discovered that he was found alive with bruises on the left side of the head. He was then rushed to St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital in Gilgil but sadly died while undergoing treatment.
